In this important new article, SWEC executive director Kevin Bixby explains how the current system of wildlife management in the U.S., by being overly focused on serving hunters and anglers, is failing to meet the challenge of protecting species and ecosystems in the face of global extinction crisis. He makes the connection between wildlife advocacy and other social justice movements, and lays out reforms that are needed to align wildlife policies and institutions with modern ecological knowledge, changing public attitudes, public trust responsibilities and democratic governance. It's a long but worthwhile read.
