Otero Mesa

SWEC’s executive director Kevin Bixby will lead an all-day trip to NM’s threatened Otero Mesa, one of the largest desert grasslands left in North America. We’ll drive east of El Paso to Alamo Mountain, site of petroglyphs as well as a Butterfield Stage Station (ruins). Along the way we should see pronghorn, raptors and other wildlife. RATING: Easy, mostly driving; optional trip to see the petroglyphs requires a moderate to strenuous climb up a rocky rough slope. (Hike #41 in SWEC’s hiking guide.)

Advanced reservations are required. Space is limited. For more information and to register, please contact (575) 522-5552 or ashley@wildmesquite.org
