Join us on Tuesday, May 12th at 6:30pm for a virtual screening and Q&A of the short film "Yochi" – a film revealing complex innerworkings of the poaching crisis, set in Beliz – written and directed by Las Cruces native, Ilana Lapid.

Synopsis: "Yochi, a 9-year-old selectively mute Mayan boy, guards a nest of endangered Yellow-Headed Parrots in Belize's pine savannah. When his beloved older brother, Itza, returns from the city, Yochi learns that he’s in debt and has turned to poaching – setting the brothers on a collision course." You can watch the trailer here or see a behind the scenes look from "Yochi's" Post-Production Kickstater Campaign here

Following the film, we will host a Q&A with the film's director and producer, Ilana Lapid and Kristi Drexler alongside SWEC's Executive Director, Kevin Bixby. They will be there to answer questions regarding the making of the film, the issue of the ongoing poaching crisis, and anything in between.

Make sure to register ahead of time so we can send you the information to join the Zoom screening.

This event is free and open to the public.
