The Cottonwood Gallery is a home for environmental art located within the Southwest Environmental Center. It is more a component of our conservation work than a conventional art gallery. Featuring a lofty ceiling and natural lighting courtesy of skylights, Cottonwood provides a place for artists to engage and challenge people to reflect on humanity's place in nature and the need to adopt a more generous, sharing and respectful attitude towards the other millions of life forms with which we share the planet.
Call for Artists:
Southwest Environmental Center's Cottonwood Gallery has the following two calls for artists:
1) IMMEDIATELY "World Wide Wonders: Images of Natural Beauty from Around the Globe"
Artists creating work in any media are invited to submit works depicting the beauty of nature from around the world. Work to be displayed to the public during the months of March and April with an opening reception March 2nd. Send submissions and questions to arianna@wildmesquite.org or stop by the Center. Accepted artists will be asked to sign an exhibitor agreement. Submitted work must be matted or framed in a manner befitting the exhibit.
2) "Natural Dreamscapes: Interacting with Wild Nature in Our Dreams"
Artists creating works in any media are invited to submit works that depict an interaction with wildlife and wild places inspired by their dreams. Unlike in our waking life, our dreams allow us to interact with animals and locations in an up-close and personal way with no barriers due to extinction, distance, mortal danger or even common sense. What do our dreams communicate about our natural (or not so natural) inclination to co-exist and interact? Submission Deadline: April 30, 2012. Work on display through the months of May and June with an opening reception on May 4th. Send submissions and questions to arianna@wildmesquite.org or stop by the Center. Accepted artists will be asked to sign an exhibitor agreement. Submitted work must be matted or framed in a manner befitting the exhibit.
