The Hybrid House: Top Ten Energy Saving Building Strategies
Join us for the next Tuesday Talk at the Southwest Environmental Center entitled The Hybrid House--Top Ten energy Saving Building Strategies by Catherine Wanek on Tuesday, 12/13, at 6 pm. The talk is free and open to the public.
Like a hybrid car, a hybrid house employs a combination of strategies to save energy and reduce carbon emissions. Designed to utilize the free energy of sunlight, the passing breeze, and the rain falling on the roof, the hybrid household also incorporates non-toxic building materials that can be produced sustainably, as well as employing cutting edge technologies. Wanek’s talk will include stories of modern-day pioneers who are creating beautiful contemporary homes that are good for people and the planet.
Author and photographer of the book The Hybrid House: Designing with Sun, Wind, Water and Earth and The New Strawbale Home, Wanek has contributed articles and photos to Su Casa Magazine, Mother Earth News, and The New York Times. She is a founding member of Builders Without Borders, a non-profit world-wide network of ecological builders. She owns and operates the Black Range Lodge, an historic B&B in Kingston, NM which she is developing as a center for sustainable living. She is a longtime supporter of the Southwest Environmental Center. For more information call (575) 522-5222.
